A Happy New Year, a little belated though...

Anyway, new year has started.

Greetings for new year is much important and usual, however, kurisumasu or christmas became almost a Japanese word and its meaning is not religious or spiritual at all, it is a very commercial thing here.

In Japan, It is common to visit the shrine on the new year's day.

I do not have regular shrine to visit for the new year's day.

I change the shrines to visit year by year, I know it's unusual, and apart from the topic, people take me as unusual anyway. Yes, I KNOW!

But of course being unusual is not my aim if you ask me. I have been telling I am just doing what I think interesting but not picking out something odd or strange specially.

Naturarul born stranger? Well, I do not mind, do I ? No, never mind.

Usually go to shrines like Sumiyosi, Ikutama or Tenmaguu in Osaka City or maybe some local small shrines and then go to Nara prefecture for visiting old grand shrines/temples.

毎年正月には初詣に行きますが、（まぁ普通日本人は大概どっか初詣に行くでしょが、このブログは少ないながら海外の方が読んでるのでこんな変な書き方になる。）特に行く所を決めていません。大体、住吉、生國魂（いくたま）、天満宮などの大阪市内や近所の神社に行き、さらに奈良方面に足を伸ばしたりします。

大体、初詣に始まり年間５００回くらいは神社仏閣に行きますかね。

A bit of long introduction, but I had better to write above for

some readers abroad, especially for those who is not know Japanese custom well.

I have been doing my blog both in (broken) English and Japanese.

Sometimes it makes me very prolong explanation and extra translations for some readers.

And my point of view is a little different from standard Japanese perhaps.

I like visiting shrines and temples.

I remember some prayer for Shinto and Buddhism by heart, which is very unusual for modern Japanese people. Visiting shrines and temples over 500 times in a year, I think. Well, it is not common, I konw.

Having a cup of tea is very common, of course. And maybe you will find a tea house in a tourist place serving a bowl of green tea in a very casual way.There are many people training tea as known as chado, or the way of tea which quite popular world widely.

But actually, when it comes to something to do maccha (powdered green tea, a bowl of tea, not in a cup), we would expect some kind of away-from-this-world or obsolete, may be it's existing but irrelevant to day to day life.

My favourite things are in this field.

Still you might find somewhere else but people do not care much,

like Noh, Kabuki, Bunraku, but people go to Hollywood films, Rock Star from abroad, Dancers from west instead

of these conventional performing art.

I love teas, I mean tea not only Japanese green tea but British brew, Chinese kung fu style.

I would go wether it is Japanese traditional music or latest club DJ from UK, interesting film from south Asia, moving fiddle players from eastern Europe....

I would like to keep Japanese good tradition in my way anyway.

At Abeno branch, they sell books and CDs and rent CDs and DVDs upper floors.
The ground floor includes cafe space where you can use the PCs on the bar of the cafe.

I just can not remember how long you can use the PCs by free of charges, but at least an hour or so you might be able to use it, I think.

Recently, many book stores doing "chair services" -you can read your favourite book while you are relaxing and sit back in the chair the stores prepared.
TUTAYA Abenobashi branch also is doing like many book sellers do. The thing is that this store allows you to having a cup of coffee not only you are net surfing but also browsing the books in the store.


ここは最近の本屋の傾向に多い、ゆっくりと座りながら本が読めるのは所ですが、
驚きは何とここのカフェで注文した飲み物を飲みながら本屋スペースで読める事です。
それも、自分が買った本でなくてもOKなんです。
カフェは２４時に閉まりますが、本屋と言うか、ツタヤは朝の４時までやってます。
もっとも、本屋と言っても美術書やサブカル系の本や一部洋書もあり明らかに
セレクトショップ系の本屋ですが、このエリアでそれをやってのけてるのは凄いと思います。

I think this idea of browsing books and having coffee is marvellous!
Why? Because of the area, I should say.
The area is not bad place to live, for shopping, doing things like watching films, going to museum, zoo and so on. It is very popular place to visit although it is not city centre like Minami or Kita. It is sure, place to visit, for knowing a typical Osakan lives. But at the same time, neighbour town like Airin-district is one of the dodgiest area in country. There are some 24 hour shops. And lots of escort services are available in the area (the very place of noh pann kissa or no panties cafe, where you can served by hostesses who does not wear panties but only skirts,was born. Very unique lip-service-only style parlour is invented around here.)
The largest card board city in Japan is includes this area.No need to say, very safe town centre, I mean compare to other country's cities, towns and streets. Maybe the safest country in the developed world.
But there are rogues, sick, junkies, pushers, pimps, street girls(actually very old! ).
One of the toughest area in country, that is for sure.

The toughest area though it is, the area is one of the historic place and very cultured area at the sametime. The area called Abeno, Tennouji is dating back to the ancient era. Tennouji is name after Shitennouji,one of the oldest temple in Japan. Built in the 6 century by order of Prince Shoutoku.

So I went to the shop many times in the midnight hours. There were not strange people who you supposed to see in the 24 hour open cafe after you missed the last train in Minami or Kita. Always peace and quiet.
Serving drinks and snacks with trendy cafe-style and collections of fashionable magazines, foreign books under the name of Culture Convenience worked well? Perhaps.

大阪の以外の人にはイメージしにくいと思いますが、このエリアは難波程の
繁華街ではないにしろ、深夜営業してる店も多く、風俗店も多数有り（ノーパン喫茶は
この地区で”発明”されたし、ファッションマーサージもこの辺りが発祥地。）
通天閣、新生界界隈に近く西成のあいりん地区も目と鼻の先ですし、路上生活をしてる
人達が日本でも一、二位を争う場所です。

聖徳太子の建てた四天王寺に近く、古くはシルクロードの終着点。歴史に登場する
世界に向けての南大阪の玄関口で、歴史と文化を堂々と誇る街なんですが、
タフな街としての側面もあるには間違いないでしょう。

私も何度か夜中にこの店に行った事がありますが、難波や他の地域のこの種の
「終夜営業していて、お金のかからない場所」の割にはめっちゃ胡散臭い人があんまり
いてないのが不思議に思います。ツタヤのちょっとお洒落路線を意識した店舗や
本のセレクト等が功を奏したのでしょうか？

If 21st or 25th is on Sat/ Sunday or a holiday, I regularly visit Kyoto on 21st Toji-Temple and on 25th Kitano Tenmangu-Shrine for watching and shopping antiques and curios at the flea market.

毎月２１日か２５日が休みだと、京都に行く事があります。
２１日は東寺の弘法大師会、２５日は天満宮の天神市と縁日に出かけます。元々神社仏閣に訪れるのが好きですし、骨董とかも好きです。

と言う訳で、この前の２５日は土曜日だったので、京都の北野天満宮に
行くつもりでしたが、その前の晩遅く迄遊んでいて、朝起きれず気が付くと
既に昼くらいでした。それから、ダラダラご飯食べたり、風呂入ったりしてると
ドンドン時間は過ぎていき「こら無理やな」と天神は諦めました。
ですが、今回は京都に行く目的はこれがメインではありませんでした。
今回の目的はこれです。

京都の法然院で行われた「涼音堂茶舖」のイベントです。

I wore a yukata or summer cotton kimono and hakam or
traditinal trousers for kimono and of course, BROMPTON!

さて、このイベントの為に浴衣と袴と言うイレギュラーな格好で、
勿論Bromptonも一緒でっせ〜。

I was going to wear it because there is a discount of ¥1000 from ¥2500 for yukata wearers. Yukata is very popular among
young girls recently and boys started to trying it gradually.
I DO WEAR KIMONOS not only for special occasions but only for FASHION. It is very unusual I know. YOU DO NOT NEED REASON FOR WEAR IT, DO YOU! It's only a fashion but I like it. So kimonos are my wardrobe along with mod's suits:D
I should take an advantage of Brompton for wearing kimono.
Why? Because its design of low top tube. You can not doing the same thing on the regular size bicycles like road racers or MTBs, can you! You need some nick for riding Brommy with kimono attire, but it does not matter anyway.

このイベントでは、前売りを買った人で当日浴衣を着てきたら1000円の割引（受付で返してくれる）があるので、浴衣を着ていくつもりでした。
僕は前から着物も普通に着ます。冠婚葬祭にも着ますが、基本はファッションです。たかが着物を着るくらいで大袈裟な理由付けも必要ないでしょう。ファッションですから、日常的に楽しめば良いと思います。僕の日常的なワードローブとしてはモッズスーツと着物は並んでます（笑）
また、着物を楽しめるのもブロの利点です。トップチューブが低いので袴を穿いた状態の着物なら別に苦もなく漕げます。
勿論、着物ですんでちょっとしたコツは要りますが、それも大した事ではありません。しかし、普通の大きいタイヤの自転車、ロードレーサーやMTBではこうはいかんでしょう。

There were many girls and a few boys wear yukata for the event. It goes without saying, no one wears yukata and hakama. You might have seen kimono and hakama at some traditional occasions but NOT LIKE MY STYLE. Mine is much
older manners than you might have seen. I just do not follow the modern methods of kimono, I doubt that way!

会場には浴衣を着た男子は少なかったけど、女の子は多くいました。けど、僕みたいなのは誰もいません。極稀に冠婚葬祭などで袴姿の男性を見ると思いますが、あれとも大分違います。
スタイルとしては江戸期以前の着こなしです。
それに、今みんなが知ってる着物のルールは近代期のモノで、比較的新しい「しきたり」なので、そんなのは無視します。

When I was about to leave, I hear that this young bloke was speaking to his mate in hyoujungo or
standard accent of Japanese "You know, you can not doing this in Tokyo, can you!!"
His mate seemed to be nodding,,,,
"There are no Temples in Tokyo, even if you want to do it!"
So I was almost collapsed but maintained my position. I strongly disagree.
YOU CAN DO IT EVERYWHERE, IN JAPAN, IF YOU WANT TO, young man!
It doesn't matter where to take place this kind of events.
The thing is really happens cities like London, Berlin, Phnom-Pen or Teheran
or wherever, if you really want to do it.

帰りがけ、出口で若い男性が標準語で言ってました。
「いやぁ、これは東京じゃ出来ないよ！　これは京都だから出来るんだよ！」と
傍らの友人に語りかけ、その友人も成る程と言う感じ。
「東京には、だってお寺がないよ」
ってのを聞いて脱力するとともに、深く不同意。
日本全国どこでも出来るわい！
その気になりゃ、ロンドンでもベルリンでもプノンペンでも
テヘランでも出来るやんけと思いました。

私は、年の割に若く見られ昔買ったズボンでも入ります。自転車に乗る様に成ってからは、
筋肉も少し付いて（元々細くて、筋肉とか付かないタイプです）お腹も別に出ていませんでした。
最近衣替えの為に、夏物のスーツを一年振りに着たのですが、何と『ズボンがキツいやんけ〜！！！
これって、どう言う事やねん？！』　と思ってしげしげとお腹を見ると、明らかに出てます。

I look pretty young. I can put my old trousers on, which I bought them when I was young because
the size has not changed. I started riding bicycle recent years that made me fit and have never had
a bulging waistline, never!
I was trying to summer suits for seasonal changing of clothing. That was this trousers it made me realize something has been undergoing without my notice.'Mmm,, IT IS TIGHT, MATE! I says wot happen 2 me? super sized??"
I fixed my eyes on my waistline.
Now I am a member of the bulging waistline club.

心当たりはマクドくらいです。元々、甘い物を結構好んで食べるタイプですが、
最近はあまり食べないですし、どう考えてもマクド以外は食生活に変化はない。
先々月なんかほぼ毎日マクドでハンバーガーなりのセットに、
更に足りないのでチーズバーガーなどを追加で注文して食べるのを続けてました。
私は、別にマクドのファンでも、アンチでも何でも無い。基本は中立です。
モーガン・スパーロックのスーパーサイズミーは大変面白かったし、
アー言うスタンスの映画好きですが、見終わって長らく食べていなかったマクドを解禁させたのも、
あの映画です（笑）　
何にしろ、人に合う合わないと言うのは有ると思いますが、一日一食一月もマクドを続けると
細身で太った事のない、私でも太ると言う事が分かりました。暫く、マクドで食事は控えようと思います。
体重を増やしたい皆さんには朗報です、福音でっせ〜！！！

I have got a sweet tooth but I do not eat sweets much these days. I am skinny and the sizes of my wardrobes have not changed almost 2 decades. I should say the reason for it is McDonald's I am afraid.
I was eating almost a set menu like, 1 or 2 hamburgers, chips, coffee and sometimes a cup of shake
or an apple pie will be added, every day in a month in March(and part of April perhaps).
I am neither a big fan of McDonalds nor against for it. I' d like to stay in a neutral position.
I enjoyed Morgan Sparlock's film very much and I like it. I still love street culture, independent movement,
do support minor, short wave, alternative and so on.
Ironically, the film Super Size Me actually removed the embargo on my Not To Go McDonald's Law.
Yes, the film made me to go to McDnald's where I had not been there for a while!
On the other hand, it is a good news for the people who wants weight gain.
It is a gospel, indeed! There is no accounting for taste, is there!





さて、そう思ってこの数週間程はマクドでは食べずにコーヒーを主に注文していましたが、
先日出勤前に歯医者に行く時につい朝マックしてまいました。
今、書いてて気付きましたが、関西でも「朝マック」とこの時はマクドではなくマックと言いますね。
ここJR環状線福島駅店は、テーブル席にもコンセントが充実しています。
照明も明るすぎず室内も落ち着いた感じで、ゆっくりと出来ます。

So I stopped eating McDonald's. Instead of that, a cup of coffee is my regular menu. Despite the fact that resolution for save my tummy plan, I went to a McDonald's and had a Asa Makku or a set menu for moning when I was going to see a dentist. BTW, We Osakans never call the McDonald's as Makku(Mac) .
We call it Makudo, as I written before. We never call it Asa Makudo, but Asa Makku.
JR Fukushima Station is just 1 stop from JR Osaka Station, where I regularlly visit the dentist.
The shop offers power points at tables. The lights are not too bright and the feeling of room calmed down
so you can relax even you are in a fast food restaurant in town.

Brompton on Bullet Train ブロンプトンを新幹線に

It has been a while since I up loaded last time.
I went to Hamamatsu, Shizuoka Prefecture for a business trip last month.
This time my role is not so important, it was like an easy-going-attendant or whatever. I was going to take my Brompton. I do not know well about town but there must be some temples and shrines which I could find them attractive.
I should have checked out about town on the net but I did not. And I woke up late because I did not have to wake up early in the morning. Easy, isn't it. I wondered to leave my Brommy or not. I decided to take her with me or she takes me.

少し時間が空きましたが、先月静岡の浜松に出張に行って来ました。
今回は、私はお供で行く、と言うか出張先で近未来に撮影が行われる予定で、
それの為のロケハンに行って来ました。
事前に、特に浜松の地理や歴史を調べてませんでしたが、Bromptonを持って
行って、時間があれば付近を散策するつもりでした。
お気楽なもんで、結局フラーと家を出ました、特に何の用意も下調べもせずに。
いつもよりゆっくり目に。

At that time a very kind female guard took my Brommy to a cloakroom on the train. Apparently it was out of her personal kindness and THERE IS NO SUCH REGULAR KINDNESS, I mean, SERVICES, by JR,no.

その時は大変親切な女性乗務員の方がBromptonを預かってくれて、車両内の荷物置き場持って行ってくれました。しかし、それは飽くまでその方の個人的な好意から出た事で、その様な好意はJRの正式な物ではありません。

Finishing our task, we went to Hamamatsu Station without relishing UNAGI or eel, a very popular local dish. As I written just before that I was not an important person for the business trip.My aim was a ROKE HAN(abbv. rokehshon hantingu), or location scout for forthcoming video shooting.So it was easy wasn't it :)
Soon I will be back for shooting and am going to appreciate local tastes!

今日は、自分の乗ってる自転車を紹介します。自転車に詳しい人なら知ってるかも知れませんが、Bromptonと言うメーカーのBromptonと言う自転車です。
正真正銘のイギリス製の手作り自転車で、世界中にファンのいる名車です。

この会社は、社名がBrompton（ブロンプトン。英音はブランプタン）ならば、作ってる自転車もこのBromptonだけです。尤も、最近は素材とハンドルの形式で幾つかに別れますが、それだけの違いで、要はこの小さな車輪の折り畳み自転車しか作っていません。

The name of the maker and the name of bikes are same, simply Brompton.
There is no different series of bicycles but some variations are available depends on materials and shape of handle bars.

日常の足として使いますんで、普段の通勤用はこの様にスーツ姿で乗っています。
as my vehicle for commuting, i wear suits for riding, not cycling shorts, NO.

僕の乗ってるモデルは、実は今の日本市場では正規輸入されて売ってない形です。
元となってるのは、P−３Lと言うモノですが、購入に際して変速機を６段に替えて、後に荷台を付けました。色も、変わったパターンでこれも見た事が無い組み合わせです。本国の英国や、欧州の一部の国ではアラカルトオーダーと言う形で、自分の好きな色や素材等にカスタマイズして組み上げてくれるシステムが有るのですが、日本では対応していません。
僕がこの会社の日本代理店の営業なら何としても導入に奔走するでしょうね、このシステム。

My bike can not be found in the Japanese market for some reason.
P-3L is my bike though it has got some different feature compare to other P-3Ls which you might have seen in some Western Countries.
I ordered 6 speeds instead of default 3 speeds and added Made in Japan rear carrier.(L means Light Weight that is no rear carrier and 3 means 3 speeds.) I hear that this Made in Japan carrier is much nicer , tougher, versatile and cheaper than the originals.
The colour of mine is different too. You can buy main frame in black colour and front/ rear frames, handle stem in silver colour. That is a basic P-3L. Mine is green frame, black rear, silver front and stem. There also some custom models available which you can order colours, materials, type of handles, rear carrier, lighting systems and so on.
Unfortunately, custom order system or it is called a la carte in UK, not here in Japan. You have only limited chances to get Broptons. Not fully covered I am afraid. If I were working in the agent of Brompton I would introduce this attractive custom order system!!

僕は、昔から英国ものが好きです。
音楽に（パンクやニューウエーブ、ダブやスカ、クラブ系、そして６０年代のビートミュージックやモッズにビートルズと何でも）始まり、ファッション、とか文化、文学‥‥色々と興味の対象は有ります。
そんな僕にはこの自転車はデザインと構成は全くピッタリと来る物でした。

I do not think that I am an Anglo-Mania person, do I !? :-)
When I was younger, I was impressed by British music, like punk rock, new wave, dub, ska, club music, or 60's swiging London Mod scene and of course the lads from Liverpool, etc.. Then I find another side of UK culture like fashion, literature, drama, history, art, etc. attractive as well. The design and philosophy of this bike really matches what I like, I should say. It is very natural, isn't it!?

職場を出た所です。鞄はブロンプトン専用に設計された物で、恐らく世界中の自転車の前カゴの様式としては最も先進的で機能的で、実用的でしょう。

折り畳んで、鞄も付けたまま転がせますので買い物も、駅での移動でもそんなに苦労はしません。

can b push like a cart, no need for worrying about 2 b stolen. its easy to use for shopping, moving in the stations.


折り畳み自転車はこれが最初じゃ有りません。
このブログに一番最初に登場したBianchi Frtta-Tが最初に購入した物です。実は、これにするか、ブロにするか最後の最後まで悩んで、利用状況等を考えて最終的にBianchi Frtta-Tにしました。でも結局ブロも買ってしまいました。
これからも少しずつ、このBromptonやBianchi Frtta-Tの事や普段の使い方なんかを書いていきたいと思います。

My first folder is not Brommy, isn't she?
I had boght Bianchi Fretta-T(AKA Birdy by R and M in the West) before I have got my Brommy. The Fretta appeared in my first weblog.
Considering the situations, the environment, and basic function of bikes I decided Fretta as my bike. Even though I know that Fretta is nice and good to ride or take, but I could not resist the attraction of Brompton!
I think I am going to show you daily aspects of these small wheel folders, Brommy & Fretta in use, in the near future.
