dynamo light and front bag if u dont use em thats "mottainai" (by a novel lauret) pt ii/ ブロンプトンの発電一式と着脱式鞄を使わんとモッタイナーイ(byマータイさん)その2

My first folding bike was Birdy. The look of the bike did strike me.

That was so cool for a bike. I do prefer things by its look, yes look matters. I had tried Birdy before I bought and found very good for riding, so I bought one of them from Bianchi. I did not like colours and the name BD-1, that sounds really uncool, sounds otaku for Japanese. And things suroundigs BD-1 were (are) not cool, especially most of its commercial campaigns are boring and dorokusai(literally smell of mud, earth. means unrefined) images. I did not much like the adverts and catalogues. I have never heard of "I love that" from small folder lovers, BD-1 riders. I am not an odd fish.

Mizutani Bikes did use lots of money for advert and it actually reflects the cost of bikes, Biachi did not care of adverts, the price was cheaper than BD-1, and components of it also was better. And this is very important, both brands bike are made in Taiwan, Pacific Cycles. Just the same bike, different stickers of brands, don't they!?

I did not mean to riding it during rains, I thought no mud guards does not mean anything, and Birdy claims it is a kind of supohtu baiku that means no mud guards any way.

I bought front and rear battery light without any doubt. Cateye's and Pnanasonic's they both work well. I was buying batteries every month. Panasonic's light turned to be not good. One day it stop working. I asked the shop where I bought it, Yodobashi Cmera Umeda branch. The shop is a large appliance chain store thorough out Japan. Umeda branch is not a "shop" it is a department store like gigantic building and they sell bikes and goods. I said to a shop staff about the problem. I bought it here and it is almost 2 years ago, but I think it is worth asking just in case. They say they can not do any thing. It must be seeping of rain and it made a short circuit. I asked could they mend it for me, but they were keen on it. According to a shop staff, it must be cost a lot and takes time, so it is better to get new one. I was really disappointed this attitude and the quality of this Japanese top brand. Broken down by rain? We live in a rainy country of Far East. The brand started dealing with bicycle parts, yes it was battery light that Matusita Kounosuke did hit the idea of selling nifty clever electricity goods. So disappointed with these things I really needed something different, not wasting my money and it must be more eco conscious. No more batteries. NO MORE motainai.

no traffic lights @ all, but it doesnt matter @ all.

Ever since I started a dynamo system of Brompton, I am very delighted with it. Especially, the newer dynamo, the one given by cycle446. I hear some grumbles on it through the net globally. Although it can not be called brilliant, it is very nice to use for every day use.

You can ride a Brompton more than you expected.

It is almost All Terrain Bicycle, but you can not go extreme of course. I ride it when it is raining, day, night,on asphalt road, on dirt. I did not expect to ride it on rainy days as I abandoned to ride Birdy for rain when I bought it. I like riding bikes at night, but if you use battery light you are always care about running time of batteries. You have to change the course if you are not sure of the batteries. You are controlled by batteries, not your will!!! It is not an independent cyclist. Of course there are some nice lights which can last long hours but not very bright and not good for riding suburbs or country sides with no traffic lights.

So we passed the hill of Kimi Touge again.

Last time we came here was day time. We had a rest here as same as the last time. It was about 30km from Nagai park? I can not remember, but more or less like that.

We had bought food stuff before coming to the hill, but we prefered to go McDonald's and logged in for check en route. We had coffee and snacks here because after this place you can not see a 24 hours shop or garages, corner shops.

Hasimoto Stn.

I got lost and spent much time to came here. When we arrived here, soon the last train came to the station. We climbed up unknown hills and passed over strange villages. That was my mistake, sorry mate!!

From this picture, you can not see a thing but it actually was not like this by the dynamos and the lights. We were going thorough the road with a few lights and villages of no lights.

Since we planed not for details and we have not got a specific map!

A2C borrowed very abstract map, well better than nothing any way, we can't complain can we!

In fact, the map was not clear and we missed our way again and again! Taht's map for you! At that time, I felt strange with my brommie. The air of rear tyre had been leaking out. About 3 months ago, same thing happened to the bike. I went to a bike shop to have mend it. It was valve that cause the leaking of the air. This time it was quite similar to that. Are you sure Schwalve French valve?! I could not doing anything except pumping. Running then pumping, and then climbing, pumping, I had to do!!

Yes, it was to hard to run and climbing hills.

We arrived at kintesu Yoshino station early in the morning of 4 AM. About 100 km or something, isn't it, A2C The Missionary of Outdoors ?

There is the cable car station in front of Kintetsu Yoshino stn. That means you are in front of very steep hill!! No cable cars are available at that time of course, too early. We would not use it anyway. I came here and climbed up and down by Brompton several times, and I knew it is not easy job for a Brompton, but I managed to do it with an almost-punctured-tyre. So we up and up, heading further and further.

You will see a small arbour over looking the mountains when you climbed up the steep hill. It was misting just before arrived Yoshino arean, then a bit harder. We waited here and see what the weather is going. Actually this place is a halfway up the mountain, but there are inns, restaurants, cafe and the cable car station. All shattered, goes with out saying!

Hydrangeas. Lovely, aren't they!

About an hour and something(can't remember) we dozed off, and chatted, and dozed off again... And then the Dawnig of a New Era. Yeah, i knew the SPECIALS are coming to Japan for a music fest, but I was wondering to go or not coz i dont like much of those natu h(f)uesuh(summer festivals, most of these music fests in japan are very commercial, not independent, no artistic movement, off course there are some nice events...) i hear they do play in tokio for their gig, hope they do it in osaka....Well, the morning came, the weather was better, so we headed for Kinpusennji(kinpusen Temple).

a view from the small arbour. this is a dawning...

The temple already had started its morning service. I entered the Hall and said the prayer, mantora as I usually do. The Temple was very important roll in Japanese history, religion, culture. So many Emperors, Samurais, Aristocrats, Artists, Authors and all the folk love here. Area designated as one of the World Heritages of Japan as well as Kouya san and Kumano region.

The weather was not lovely and some times it misted but not rained. So we go back the way we came.

The JetBoils.

A2C the Missionary of Outdoors did again!

I told him be sure to bring his gas for a JetBoil, and he went "yes, sir! leave it me". When I was cooking breakfast for us and I needed boiling water, so I switched on the other burner many times. It did not work because there was no gas in the can! He brought an ESBIT cook set. We used it. the Missionary of Outdoors, you shouldn't have done that, all you had to is bring a fuel can, not empty one or old German Army's cook set, yeah? I like that old German Army's anyway.

Plus, he DID NOT take his GPS data logger for some reason, WHY the Missionary, my brethren!!

I tried to make Budae Jigae(Korean style pot cooking) but I could not get Korean ramen at the shops on the way to here. I bought kimuchi(hot pickled Chinese cabage, Korean pickles),ramen, mush rooms, and vegetables.

We went back to Hashimoto station and take a train from here.

The distance was 125 km long at that time. 35 km less than century miles.

Though my brommie had some trouble of the tyre, it worked brilliantly. We cycled over 100 km, steep hills, the road with out traffic lights and (as usual)the bags full of stuff!!

This must be the super folder, isn't this!

dynamo light and front bag if u dont use em thats "mottainai" (by a novel lauret) / ブロンプトンの発電一式と着脱式鞄を使わんとモッタイナーイ(byマータイさん)

Front carrier system of Brompton is one of the best carrying system of all of modern bikes, and versatile rear carrier is a plus. There also is nifty lighting system you can not miss it. If you own a Brompton and never use both of them, it is a pity, I am afraid. Only a Brompton has these clever system and it doesn't interfere its sophisticated folding! If you do not use these gears that's "mottainai". (by Wangari Maathai)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mottainai

so many bags, so many bikes...

Brompton's lighting system is not so popular among Japanese bromptonauts!
Partly Japanese agent of Brompton bikes are not keen on for dealing genuine parts and optional parts. You can not get a dynamo for a Brompton. If you want a dynamo, you have to buy dynamo, F light, R light, cables and frills, namely dynamo systems, thorough the agent. But you are lucky to buy this set because there was not a set like this 2 year ago. If you wanted to get these things, you have to buy it from UK, or other foreign countries on your own, and it was not so easy thing to do for ordinary Japanese people. Above all, when you say dynamo light is out of date since we are living in this state of the art country. And this is very important, when you say you like bike means that you like kind of sports oriented, competition or race type bike. It has been called SUPOHTU BAIKU(sports bike). I do not like sports in general, so I do not mind SUPOHTU BIKE either. Once again, I am not sure of sports bike in English language LOL , but most of hobby cyclist in Japan boast that they are riding on SUPOHTU BAIKU. There were not good dynamos for SUPOHTU BAIKU. Very practical bikes are not so popular so there is no good dynamos at bike shops. PURO SHOPPU( professional shop? i don know but lots o supohtu baiku shoppu claim themselves as puro shoppu) do not bother to selling goods apart from SUPOHTU BAIKU and they do not well about things not SUPOHTU BAIKU. I believe Brompton is not SUPOHTU BAIKU.
That is one of the reasons why I love it.
M3L is the best selling model in here, although there is only limited colours and they do not sell 2009 model. Well, they sell. They sell 2009 model, but it is not with;
penta clips, new design saddle, new design pedal. The colour of bikes are mat and the prices have been increasing year by year, this year's more than 150000 yen(about 950 pound) . Yes, the price actually is 2009 version. Why both Bromtpn UK and Japanese agent do sell these inferior version, compare to in Europe and UK, with high prices in Japanese market? Are they look down on us?? I hope not. This year so many people try to get a Brompton and difficult-to-get-parts from UK,Europe or USA by mail order through the net. Because some people are not get satisfied with the manner of Mizutani bike.

f b&m w/stand light, r bromptons.

Anyway, Brompton is very popular, but at the same time, some of the people who loves Brompton, does not realize very unique advantages of this lovely folder. Most of M3L owners do not use dynamo and they even do not notice the existence of dynamo!
I do use front and back carrier, dynamo system. Mine is B&M lumotec plus, that means with an LED stand light. Rear light is Bromtpon's. I run 30 km with this lighting at night. Sometimes I run 50km or more with this light. The bottle dynamo is AXA HR and this is given by cycle446  when my former one had broken. thank you, man! I used some LED battery lights, but they were not so good, just OK and you always take some extra batteries just in case. Most of lights did good job when I put new batteries in it. But after several hours or so they obviously loose their teeth!! They last very long hours, but not so bright and it only works as "see me" not "I can see".
Brompton's dynamo is not like that. It works really well although it is not excellent for some reason. So you can go night ride on Bromptons even some SPOHTU BAIKUs can not do that easily because lighting matters.

I asked A2C for riding in Nara, Wakayama during night.
"Road bikes and MTBs are not tend to be riding in the nights but brommie's got this dynamo, so that would be fun for riding all through the night." "Yeah, sounds interesting."
We started Nagai park in Sumiyosi ward, Osaka. We were going down south of Osaka. There is a mountain pass called Kimi touge where we passed when we went to Kouyasan.
We had planed to cycle around Yosinotyou, Nara Pref.. I run over 100 km a day many times but I do not think I did over 100 miles a day. I just wanted to try this century ride. 100 miles and all night run light up by dynamo light is the today's theme.

Yao historical sites tour and world of strange loan word on the net/

  I love Osaka.
People in Japan do not think that Osaka is rich in history, even lots of osakans don't, do they! When you say 'rich in history', that is Kyoto or Nara. Tons of tourists visit Kyoto and Nara as guide books are keep saying 'you must see'. There are only a few 'historical buildings' in Osaka. You won't see much houses and buildings of pre WW II. Even in suburbs of Osaka, you won't see these things. In Nara, There are so many buildings of centuries old and some times 1000 years old or more! Same goes to Kyoto, but not so older than Nara.

onji jinja(shrine) is in the middle of mountain. u can come close here by brompton.

Even so, to tell you the truth, the history of Osaka is older than those of world famous ancient capitals of Kyoto and Nara. You do not see monks, geisha in the streets of Osaka. You will see one of the oldest temple in Japan, Shiten no ji temple in Osaka. You will see Osaka jo(Osaka Castle) in Osaka. But both of these historical buildings are made of concrete and iron! You do not see remains of palaces, but you see the ruins...No, not much wooden houses, buildings in Osaka. Is Osaka only a modern city? NO, the oldest city in Japan. Too much old and nothing to be left!!
Again, Osaka is much older than Kyoto and
Nara, even you will not see the things that remind you of ancient memories in Osaka.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kongō_Gumi
A city called Yao in Osaka Pref, is forget by many people's memory. When you say Yao means its strong character of Osakan accent and working class air of the area and maybe Kawati Ondo.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kawachi_ondo
I knew the area is very rich in history and there are many historical-must-to-see -things. I was wondering someday I would like to cycling around the area. I checked the maps and found the area is quite hilly. I needed something much more exact details. There were not walking maps at book shops, obviously no cycling maps!
Because no one thinks that Yao is good for sight seeing or touring.
A2C, who has been working in the city, recently found that there is a cycling map published by the city office. We cycle around the area the other day, and he blogged it on his blog. Friends and peers noticed and wanted to go there. So we went there again as A2C, aka OUT DOOR GOODS Missionary, the leader of our tour.
Tour de Yao was started like this.

about map. sorry no english

No, this is not "POTTERING". This is Yao touring, tour of Yao, rambling in Yao, Yao cycling or anything. As I have been writing in my blog about Japanese using term of "pottering" does not seem to be a correct language. We had tons of loan words, and most of them are unclear for using. Sometimes the speakers, writers are not sure of the definitions, and the listeners, readers do not know well but they pretend that both the addressers and receivers could understand each other!! This is a typical way of communication by Japanese people.
This would happen many times in daily conversations, especially in using loan words. I do not like this. RANTI(lunch), SUIHTU(sweets),SHOPPU(shop), BAIKU(bike), etc.,etc., these words are very common. I do not use these words on my blog or in my actual life. It is a shame. We have our own language for express our life, so we do not need these ambiguous words. These loan words, mainly from USA, are
unclear definition, blurred meaning and almost pointless because of words from another country. It suggests "something" but it does not "directly point it out". Japanese people tend to be avoiding "speak it directly".
"I had RANTI and SUIHTU at that RESTORAN (restaurant) when I went to POTTARINGU by Brompton. Then I went to a BIKE SHOPPU for SHOPPINGU(shopping). It was a nice GURUME(gourmet, French) POTTARINGU." Sometimes only conjunctions are Japanese luguageLOL All the more tragedy is some people believe these foreign words are fashionable and KUHRU(cool)LOL.
I am neither a professional English user nor a native speaker of English language, a linguist. I am not sure of this sense of usage, but it was not Yao pottering any way. If some one knew in this field, please tell me about this.
But I Digress.

Yao is not far from the city of Osaka. It takes about 20 minutes by trains from Kintesu Namba or JR Tenoji or by car. There are bicycles for rent near stations in Yao City. There might be maps available at some stations. Yamanobe no miti(a road along mountains) in Nara Prefecture is very popular among tourists. The road is not used to be though you can walk or cycle around the area. I like this area and the locals very much. The course we went on Sunday was like the road along mountains in Nara in some way. I hope the area become popular among tourist in the near future.

we waited otake @ kintetu kawati-yamamoto stn. bike 4 rent is near the station.there r 4 places for rental bike @ 3 stns in eastern part of yao. so u dont have 2 take ur bike on train. i do take my brommie 'course.
